Sawyer R/C Flyers Rules

CLUB RULES
(Revised December 2009)

The following rules were created to fulfill our obligation to the A.M.A our landlord and fellow club members, insuring continued field availability and a safe flying environment for all. Any member that does not agree to abide by each of these rules will have their flying privileges revoked.

It is expected from time to time that members will forget, or not be aware of non-compliance, however, all members are responsible to remind each other when such a situation occurs. Any member that refuses to comply when such a situation occurs. Any member that refuses to comply when requested will immediately lose flying privileges at our field for 30 days. All such infractions must be reported to the secretary..

1. Fliers must have a current A.M.A. and club card with them when flying.
2. Radios must be gold seal approved (narrow band, dual conversion) on even or odd channels.
3. No flying over or behind the pit area at any time.
4. No flying over the house on the hill to the southwest of the field or over the “NO GO” area just in front of the house.
5. All A.M.A. or I.M.A.A rules will be followed.
6. All fliers at the field must qualified as follows in order to fly ‘Solo’ otherwise they must fly with the assistance of a qualified member.

QUALIFICATION FLIGHT of Powered Airplanes (Subset 1-10)
Qualification pilot rating is obtained by successfully accomplishing the following requirements

  1. Start engine unassisted
  2. Taxi plane properly for take off
  3. Take off
  4. Demonstrate straight and level flight
  5. Perform right and left turns at a constant altitude
  6. Perform one inside loop and one Immelman turn
  7. Cut throttle, stall and recover
  8. At some point between requirements 5 and 7 the student must cut the throttle, at the instructor’s command, and make a simulated dead stick landing
  9. Perform traffic pattern approach
  10. Perform 3 out of 5 acceptable landings

QUALIFICATION FLIGHT OF OTHER AIRCRAFT i.e. Helicopter, Multirotor, Glider

Qualified pilot rating is obtained by demonstrating competency and the ability to safely pilot the aircraft to the satisfaction of two qualified members of the same type of aircraft.

Witnessing member’s names and date are to be given to the club Secretary to be kept on record.

7. All engines must be equipped with a muffler

8. Club frequency pins must be used when flying. When flying or otherwise using your transmitter, a channel pin and your club membership card must be attached to the frequency board. Return the frequency pin to the rack when you’re done for the day. If another member needs the pin – work it out between yourselves.

9. A full senior member must accompany any authorized guest flying at our field.

10.  A Senior member must accompany junior members (under 18 years of age)

11. No flying before 9:00 AM Monday thru Friday and not before 10:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday with the exception of park fliers and glider aircraft.

12. When planes are started or running up the engines on the work tables, it will be the pilot’s option as to the direction the table faces. When starting or running up the engines on the ground they must face the runway and be  tethered.

13. All pilots with gas engines must have a fire extinguisher with them on the flight line.

14. There may be a maximum of four (4) planes in the air at one time.

15. No alcoholic beverages are allowed at the field.

16. Flyers and spectators are responsible for the actions and safety of their children.

17. A radio range check is mandatory prior to the first flight of the day.

18. All engines must have the capability of being shut off from the transmitter. Glow engines by closing the throttle trim, Gas engines by shutting off the ignition system with the transmitter and a kill switch on the plane.

19. Only pilots and their helpers are allowed in the pit area or flight line. When piloting an airplane the pilot shall use a station marker.

20. Any aircraft flying its maiden voyage or first flight after a major repair shall have the sky to itself. All other pilots shall be made aware of said flight before take-off.
